Student Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) will be accessible on the second week of school, August 24th. Any parent of a 9-12 student that wishes to have their student bring a personal device from home to access the filtered Student BYOD network for school work will need to fill out the form below. Each student will be assigned their own unique login to allow FCISD to manage the users accessing the Student BYOD network. FCISD will be monitoring the internet traffic and ensuring filtering is taking place.
Parents may choose to add parental controls on their student’s device for an extra layer of protection both at school and while away from school. While not required parental control software can add features such as content filtering and screen time limits to help parents supervise their children's online activity.
Some examples of parental control software are: Bark, Norton Family, and Qustodio.
To ensure that students do not access unfiltered internet through cellular hotspots random sweeps will be performed to look for cellular signals that do not belong on campus. Any rogue signals will be removed and any further action determined by the principal.
Anti-virus will need to be verified as installed and working on all devices to protect the other BYOD devices connected to the WiFi. If using a Windows device, you can enable the Defender Anti-virus that comes with windows or you can choose to purchase another anti-virus such as Webroot, Norton, or Qustodio. If using a Mac you can add Bitdefender for mac, or Norton for mac as two examples.
Free Anti-virus options provide protection but often have pop ups asking you to purchase premium features and lack advanced removal features. They do offer protection at the cost of frequent marketing pop-ups: Bitdefender free, AVG, and Avast.
To get your student’s access code assigned and setup fill out the form below. Once received a username and passphrase will be created for the student and confirmation of the account emailed to you.
