SCOPE Act & Educational Applications

The Securing Children Online through Parental Empowerment (SCOPE) Act is a Texas law designed to protect students when they use digital tools and devices provided by public schools.

Here’s what it means for you as a parent:

  • Stronger Protections for Your Child: The law requires schools and their technology providers to shield students from harmful, deceptive, or unfair online practices.
  • Safer Online Content: Companies that provide digital services to schools must take steps to block access to dangerous or inappropriate material.
  • More Transparency: You’ll be kept informed about the digital tools your child uses and any potential risks they may pose. Parents may choose to opt out of specific digital tools if they feel they are not appropriate for their child.

This law puts parents in the driver’s seat when it comes to their child’s online safety at school. If you have questions about how your school district is implementing the SCOPE Act, don’t hesitate to reach out to the FCISD district technology office.
