Did you know that a typical can of soda contains 10 teaspoons of sugar? The next time your children ask for a soda steer them to healthy choices
instead. Water is the best all day drink. It has no sugar or calories. Take water bottles in the car and to sports games and practices. Try serving water
with meals. Ask for water when you eat out.  You can add flavor with a lemon slice. Milk provides calcium and other nutrients that kids need. Keep
the milk low-fat, but you can add chocolate or strawberry flavoring. If your child is allergic to milk, try calcium-enriched soy or rice milk. If your child
is lactose intolerant, try lactose–free milk.                                                                                                                                   .

We would like to remind parents to look at their monthly school menu, or eat a meal at school with your kids.  If you don’t like what you see, make
sure to discuss it with the principal or foodservice director.  Talk with your kids about choosing the healthier options at school meals.
