Specifications for Publishing Web Pages on District Web Server
The URL of the Falls City ISD District Web Server is http://www.fcisd.net.
The third generation of the FCISD site features both Elementary and High School sites as well as a District News interactive content server and a link to a privately maintained sports headlines site. The required posting plan is for teachers to update their web pages whenever they choose. New pages are placed by the teacher into a designated review directory. The network administrator reviews the content and functionality, emails the teacher of the intent to post with edits or as is, makes sure there are no last minute additions, then posts the new page to the existing web site. This method is rather time consuming for both parties. A content server system is in the fledgling stages of implementation. Each teacher and administrator can post content to the content server (District News) on an as needed basis- no intermediate intervention. This will enable them to update content to coincide with lessons and information that students and parents may need regarding daily classes. No objectionable content will be allowed. It will also provide teachers and students a location to leave files to pick up from home, if needed during absences.
Computer Obsolescence Policy
According to business use cycles, the useable life of computer equipment is seven years. At such time as equipment reaches the age of obsolescence, that piece(s) of equipment will be offered at auction to the general public, or will be offered to a recovery entity for refurbishment and re-distribution to other organizations statewide. The funds generated from either of these processes will be utilized to help defray the cost of the replacement unit(s). Exception: If the equipment is functional and district finances prohibit the purchase of replacement equipment, then the superintendent and/or school board may mandate that the purchase of replacement equipment be delayed until a later date.
