4-5-6 Reading
I am beginning my 16th year of teaching. My specialties include reading and gifted education at Luther Thomas Elementary School. I am a graduate of East Central High School and
Southwest Texas State University (now officially known as Texas State University). I have served the Texas Public School System in numerous districts over the years including East Central, Hondo, Uvalde, Spring, Karnes City and finally Falls City, which I am proud to call my home! My philosophy on education is a simple one: “Every child possesses the potential to learn and be successful.” Implementing that statement is the challenging part. I expect nothing less than each and every student’s personal best at all times. In my thirdd year as reading teacher for the intermediate grades and the elementary’s gifted/talented coordinator, I am looking forward to yet another spectacular and rewarding experience working with my students and parents!

A Word About Homework...
Dear Parents,
Research has shown that the best way to improve reading skills is simply to READ more!
I encourage reading from a wide variety of material for my students—including, but not limited to library books, magazines, newspapers, recipe books, journals, and the like. They may certainly use their reading text books to read stories of interest; this will not conflict with class work, since I’ve developed my reading program around award winning novels and other literature.
I also suggest trying to find at least once or twice a week where you can sit and either read with your child or have your child read to you. It is always a powerful moment in a child’s life when you, their role model, takes the time to show interest in what their reading/learning. Being a parent myself, I know time is limited, but I also know you’ll find the reward to be great!
The Bottom Line
Face it.
Nobody owes you a living.
What you achieve or fail to achieve in your lifetime
is directly related to what you do
or fail to do.
No one chooses his parents or childhood
but you can choose your own direction.
Everyone has problems and obstacles to overcome
but that too is relative to each individual.
Nothing is carved in stone.
You can change anything in your life
if you want to badly enough.
Excuses are for losers.
Those who take responsibility for their actions
are the real winners in life.
Winners meet life’s challenges head on
knowing there are no guarantees
and give it all they’ve got.
It’s never too late or too early to begin.
Time plays no favorites
and will pass whether you act or not.
Take control of your life.
Dare to dream and take risks.
If you aren’t willing to work for your goals,
don’t expect others to.
Believe in Yourself!
