| Gillett, Texas is located at the intersection of State Highways 80 and 116 in Karnes County, an area first settled around the time of the Civil War. During the Texas Revolution and the Civil War, many people passed through the Karnes County area for numerous reasons. During this time the area received a very high amount of rainfall, and the travelers referred to the area as “The Garden of Eden.” When they returned to their families, they told them of the area and said it was the new promised land.
