Hobson was composed largely of people of Czech, German, and Polish descent. In 1915, the community had seven businesses and a population of 100. The town reached a peak reported population of 175 in the early 1950s. In 1990 it reported a population of 135.

One of the main businesses in the town was a store named Bordovsky’s Store, owned by Aubrey and Linda Bordovsky.  It was a little grocery store, which also sold hardware supplies, but about two years ago, a fire started and the store was burned to the ground.  It played a major effect on the people’s lives that lived there, so with the well being of all the town’s citizens, they helped Aubrey and Linda start back up again.  They now rebuilt a store only specializing in miscellaneous hardware supplies.

Hobson, Texas also has their local church, St. Boniface Catholic Church, which was recently remodeled.  Almost the entire town of Hobson attends this church, having Father Gregory as their priest.  Along with a post office, St. Boniface Catholic Church, and a few businesses, Hobson also has their own community hall.  This hall has been around for many years and is still kept in great condition by the townspeople.
